COMPANY BACKGROUND
AJBARBER is a family run business trading since 1970. After completing his carpentry and joinery apprenticeship, Tony worked on large scale residential developments and then set up the company with wife, Joy. Over the years the company diversified into manufacturing shoji screens and, later, manufacturing kitchens.In addition to running the office, Joy continued to work as a part time dental assistant, having completed her training after finishing school. In 1987, the dentist she worked for required a new surgery and engaged Tony to undertake the project. The kitchen joinery was customized to suit a surgery and so started their specialisation in dental surgery fit-outs. Joy has always and continues to handle the administration of the company.
In 1993, their now son-in-law, Ben commenced his apprenticeship with them. After a brief time working on domestic projects, Ben rejoined the company 12 years ago and is now employed as the site foreman/project manager.
Tony and Joy's eldest daughter (and Ben's wife), Katie, came on board in 2002. Having worked for 7 years in marketing, Katie decided to pursue her passion by completing a Bachelor of Colour and Design at the School of Colour and Design Australia. Katie then worked as a freelance color and design consultant for several years before joining the family business as our in-house designer and project manager.
